The Current State: The world is going increasingly digital. According to a post by Seagate, the IDC predicts that the Global Datasphere will grow from 33 Zettabytes (ZB) in 2018 to 175 ZB by 2025. With regard to the market as a whole, by 2025, the global CDN market is expected to be twice as large as the cloud object storage market. IPFS and Filecoin overcome the scaling, security, and centralization issues limited by web2 technology, and is becoming the foundation for a new way to build web applications.
So what problem does Saturn solve? Unfortunately, most of the traffic and retrievals for IPFS is going through public, centralized gateways and doesn’t match the speed required for modern dApps and large scale Web3 applications require today. There is also no cache layer to accelerate Filecoin retrievals. But with Saturn now implemented, retrievals are operating at a capacity of 11 terabits per second, which is five percent of the network capacity of Cloud Flare. It is serving about 158 million requests daily with over 2000 Points of Presence. So to say Saturn CDN is growing rapidly is an understatement (May 2023).
